APlay Pro allows you to connect one or more presentation screens and add folders from your computer so you can use your own media during a service. This article walks you through both setup processes.

Before you begin

Make sure:

• Your presentation screen is connected to your computer through HDMI, DisplayPort, or a Blackmagic connection.

• Any media folders you want to use are already organized and available on your computer.

• If folders are on a shared drive, ensure they are made available for offline access.

How do I connect a screen to APlay Pro?

Step 1: Open your Output settings

1. Select Settings using the cog wheel in the upper-right corner.

2. Select Outputs from the left menu.

3. Select the Output Screen row displaying the screen icon and resolution.

Step 2: Select your presentation screen

1. Find the HDMI or DisplayPort screen you want to use.

2. Use the magnifying glass to identify each connected screen if needed.

3. Select the screen you want APlay Pro to use.

APlay Pro will now present content on the selected screen.

Tip: Enable Activate output screen on startup at the top of the Outputs settings if you want APlay Pro to automatically reconnect your output screen when the program opens.

Step 3: Add additional outputs

1. Select New Output at the bottom of the Outputs screen.

2. Add the additional display you want to use.

You can also add Blackmagic connections from this area.

How do I add my own content to APlay Pro?

Step 1: Add a media folder

1. Go to the Media tab.

2. Select Add Folder at the bottom.

3. Select the folder from your computer that you want to use.

Note: Folders added to APlay Pro function as “smart folders.” When you update the original folder on your computer, the folder in APlay Pro updates as well.

Step 2: Set the folder type

1. Right-click the folder you added.

2. Select the appropriate folder type:

   • Background Type: Use for items such as looping videos that appear behind lyrics. These items will loop and remain muted.

   • Foreground Type: Use for videos that should play once and include sound.

Tip: Setting the correct folder type ahead of time helps APlay Pro handle your media appropriately when you use it in a presentation.

What are the requirements or limits?

APlay Pro can  be downloaded by going to joinamazing.com/downloads and is available for Windows and Mac.

Troubleshooting

1. Remember to select the "Present" arrow in the top right corner if your presentation is not on your display after you select your screen.
2. If you notice lag in your system, double check to ensure you have downloaded the proper version for your Mac: APlay Pro has two Mac variants; one for newer Apple Silicon (M-series) and older Intel Macs.

Overview

Connecting APlay Pro to your Amazing Life account gives you access to the curriculum media included with your subscription directly inside APlay Pro.

Before you begin

Make sure you have:

• A valid joinamazing.com account.

• An Amazing Life subscription that includes the content you want to access.

• An internet connection.

How do I connect APlay Pro to my Amazing Life account?

Step 1: Connect to APlay

1. Go to Settings.

2. Select Connection.

3. Select Connect to APlay.

Step 2: Sign in

1. Your browser will open.

2. Sign in using your joinamazing.com account.

3. Return to APlay Pro after signing in.

Step 3: Find your curriculum

1. Go to the Show Page at the top center of APlay Pro.

2. Select the Media tab in the bottom-left area.

3. Find APlay under the Curriculum heading.

4. Select APlay to view the content included with your subscription.

What are the requirements or limits?

In order to connect to APlay you must have an active Amazing Life subscription.

Troubleshooting

If you have trouble connecting or get an error message in the process:

1. Ensure you are using the correct credentials and try again
2. Close APlay Pro and quite your browser and try again
3. Restart your computer and try again

3. How to Organize and Edit Content in APlay Pro

Overview

APlay Pro uses folders, projects, sections, shows, and templates to help you organize your services. After your content is organized, the Edit Page gives you tools to customize individual slides.

How do I organize my service?

Step 1: Understand folders and projects

• Folders are containers that hold projects.

• Projects are containers that hold shows and sections, similar to a playlist in ProPresenter.

• Sections can help divide the different portions of your service.

Step 2: Create reusable project templates

You can create a Project Template containing placeholders for content you regularly use.

This lets you begin future services with the same basic structure instead of rebuilding them each week.

Tip: When you're ready to present, select View > Toggle Focus Mode from the top menu. Focus Mode provides a simplified view of your shows that can be easier for volunteers to navigate.

How do I edit content?

Step 1: Open the Edit Page

1. Select the Edit Page at the top of APlay Pro.

2. Select the show or slide you want to edit.

Step 2: Add notes

1. Select the three dots in the upper-right corner.

2. Select the option to add notes.

Step 3: Change your editing view

Use the tabs at the top of the Edit Page to change how you edit your content.

Text Edit provides an editing experience similar to the Reflow Editor in ProPresenter.

Step 4: Add and edit slide elements

1. Select the plus sign in the bottom-right corner to add an item to your slide.

2. Select the added item.

3. Use the right column to edit its properties.

Tip: Use Shrink to Fit for text boxes when you want APlay Pro to automatically reduce the text size to prevent text from being cut off.

What are the requirements or limits?

You have the flexibility to organize your shows and slides any way that best meets your need.

Troubleshooting

If a folder is accidentally added in the wrong place you can drag it to the far left to pull it out of the parent folder

4. How to Create Lyric Shows in APlay Pro

Overview

APlay Pro can search for song lyrics online and turn them into a ready-to-play lyric show.

How do I create a lyric show?

Step 1: Start a new song

1. Open the Shows tab in the bottom drawer.

2. Select the Songs category in the left column.

3. Select New Show in the bottom-right corner.

4. Enter the name of the song.

5. Select Web Search.

Step 2: Select and review the song

1. Select the correct song and artist from the search results.

2. Review the lyrics.

3. Remove the contributor information listed on the first line if needed.

4. Review the lyric groups.

Note: Ultimate Guitar search results commonly include chords.

Step 3: Set the number of lines per slide

1. Open More Options in the upper-right corner.

2. Set the maximum number of lyric lines you want displayed on each slide.

3. Select Create Show.

Step 4: Add a background or template

1. Open the Media tab in the bottom drawer.

2. Drag the background you want onto the first slide.

To use a template:

1. Open the Templates tab.

2. Select the template you want to apply.

Tip: Consider setting the text boxes in your lyric templates to Shrink to Fit to reduce the chance of lyrics being cut off.

What are the requirements or limits?

You will need internet access to do the web search for your song. However, once your show is created it will playback offline.

Troubleshooting

Make sure to type the name of the song correctly for the web search to work properly.

5. How to Edit Stage Displays in APlay Pro

Overview

Stage layouts determine what your team sees on stage displays. You can edit the default layout or create additional layouts for different portions of your service.

How do I edit a Stage display?

Step 1: Open the Stage Page

1. Select the Stage Page at the top center of APlay Pro.

2. Choose whether you want to edit the default layout or create a new layout.

3. You can add a new layout in the bottom of the left column.

Step 2: Add items to the layout

1. Select the plus sign in the bottom-right corner.

2. Add the item you want displayed.

3. Customize the item as needed.

Tip: You can create multiple Stage layouts for different parts of your service and use Actions to switch between them.

What are the requirements or limits?

You will need a separate display/screen in order to physically show your stage/confidence monitor at the same time as your main display.

Troubleshooting

1. If you have multiple screens but they all show the same content, they are likely on a splitter and your stage display won't work. You will have to run a separate connection from the computer to the stage display.
2. If you have multiple stage layouts you can manually toggle between them by right clicking the stage preview in the upper right and select "stage layout"

6. How to Use Scripture in APlay Pro

Overview

APlay Pro lets you add web-based or local Bible translations, search for Scripture, and turn selected verses into presentation slides.

How do I add a Bible?

Step 1: Open Scripture

1. Open the Scripture tab in the bottom drawer.

2. Select New Scripture in the bottom-left column.

Step 2: Add a web-based Bible

1. Select API.

2. Search for the Bible translation you want to add.

3. Enter the full name of the translation rather than its abbreviation.

Examples include:

• New International Version vs. NIV

• New American Standard Bible vs. NASB

Step 3: Add a local Bible

You can also add compatible XML Bible files that you have purchased or downloaded.

How do I create Scripture slides?

Step 1: Find your passage

Use either:

• The Scripture selection interface, or

• The Scripture search option on the far right.

Step 2: Add verses to a show

1. Select one or more verses.

2. Right-click the selection.

3. Convert the selected verses into a show.

You can also drag and drop verses into an existing show.

Step 3: Adjust Scripture behavior

Use the controls in the bottom-right column to change how Scripture slides are created.

Tip: If you want exactly one verse on each slide, turn off Smart Split and set the layout to 1 verse per slide.

What are the requirements or limits?

API Bibles require access to the internet to complete the search but the shows created will be available offline.

Local Bibles are stored on your computer and will be available with our without the internet.

Troubleshooting

Dragging a s scripture to an existing show will lead to a background carrying over from the previous slide. You can add a backdrop to your verse by simply going to your Media tab and dragging the backdrop you like to the first verse and it will apply to all consecutive verses following.

Overview

Actions allow you to automate one or more tasks in APlay Pro. A single Action can contain multiple steps, similar to a Macro in ProPresenter.

How do I create an Action?

Step 1: Open Actions

1. Go to the Functions tab.

2. Select Actions in the left column.

3. Select New Action in the bottom-right corner.

Step 2: Configure your Action

1. Give your Action a name.

2. Select what you want the Action to do from the pick-list.

3. Add additional action steps if needed.

Note: A single Action can contain multiple steps.

Tip: Select the More Options eye icon in the upper-right corner to expand the available Actions pick-list.

What are the requirements or limits?

Actions can be clicked from the actions section at the bottom. They can also be added to a slide with a simple drag-and-drop.

Troubleshooting

1. To remove an action from a slide, hoover over it until it turns red then single click. 
2. Actions are persistent, meaning that editing an action that has previously been added to a slide will also affect the way it behaves on that slide.

8. How to Use Remote Control in APlay Pro

Overview

Remote Clicker allows a phone, tablet, or other browser-enabled device to advance or go to previous slides without operating the presentation computer directly.

How do I set up Remote Clicker?

Step 1: Enable Remote Clicker

1. Go to Settings.

2. Select Connection in the far left menu.

3. Select Remote Clicker in the center of the screen.

4. Enable Remote Clicker.

Step 2: Connect your device

1. Scan the displayed QR code with a phone or tablet.

You can also share the provided link with another device.

Step 3: Control your presentation

From the browser on the connected device:

• Select the right control to advance to the next slide.

• Select the left control to return to the previous slide.

Tip: Select the refresh icon in the upper-right corner of the Remote Clicker window to reset the QR code. This can help prevent previously connected users from accidentally controlling your presentation.

What are the requirements or limits?

Remote clicker requires your presentation computer and your mobile device to have internet access. They do not, however, need to be on the same network.

Troubleshooting

If a error message pops up immediately, click the check box and reselect the Remote Clicker option. A QR code should appear.

APlay Pro 6.0 and later can recognize the Spotify desktop application running on your computer and provide Spotify controls directly inside APlay Pro.

Before you begin

Make sure:

• The Spotify desktop application is installed on your presentation computer.

• You are using APlay Pro 6.0 or later.

How do I connect Spotify to APlay Pro?

Step 1: Open Spotify

1. Open the Spotify desktop application.

2. Find and select the playlist you want to use, such as an Amazing Music playlist.

Step 2: Open APlay Pro

1. Open APlay Pro 6.0 or later.

2. APlay Pro will automatically recognize Spotify.

Step 3: Find the Spotify controls

Look in the right column beneath the Clear panel for the Spotify control panel.

Tip: You can create Actions that control Spotify and trigger those Actions from your slides. See this article to download pre-made actions.

What are the requirements or limits?

1. Users must download Spotify for desktop.
2. The controls only allow you to skip forward or backwards; selecting a specific playlist from APlay Pro is not supported.

Troubleshooting

If you don't see the Spotify control panel:

1. Ensure that you have downloaded and opened the Spotify desktop app
2. Ensure you have APlay Pro 6.0 or later
3. Try starting a song from the Spotify app then go to APlay Pro while its playing to try and stop it

10. How to Create Live Polls and Quizzes in APlay Pro

Overview

Interactions let you create live polls and quizzes that participants can join using their own mobile devices. You can create questions, identify correct answers, generate presentation slides, and display live results.

How do I create a poll or quiz?

Step 1: Create an Interaction

1. Open Functions in the bottom drawer.

2. Select Interactions in the bottom-left column.

3. Select New Interaction in the bottom-right corner.

4. Name your poll or quiz.

Step 2: Add a question

1. Select Add Input.

2. Select the type of item you want to add.

3. For a multiple-choice question, choose the multiple-choice option you want.

4. Enter your question.

5. Add the possible answers.

Step 3: Mark the correct answer

Select the red X beside an answer to change that option to the correct answer.

1. Close the question after entering all answer options.

2. Add additional questions as needed.

Step 4: Configure the Interaction

1. Select Settings in the bottom-right corner.

2. Change the settings as desired.

   1. Request Names
   2. Allow all inputs at once
   3. Set max time per input (seconds)
   4. Determine a scoring system (incremental, falloff, or speed)
   5. Determine points per question

3. Select Settings again when finished.

Step 5: Generate your presentation slides

1. Go to the bottom of the right column.

2. Generate each available slide option.

   1. Join
   2. Players
   3. Question
   4. Chart
   5. Leaderboard

3. Customize the generated slides as desired by going to the Edit page at the top.

How do I run the poll or quiz?

Step 1: Start the Interaction

1. Select Start in the bottom-left corner.

2. Display the Join slide.

3. Have participants scan the QR code to join.

Step 2: Present your questions

1. Select the first question from the bottom.

2. Present the question slide to participants.

3. Reveal the correct answer when appropriate.

4. Use the generated slides throughout the presentation to display questions, charts, players, or leaderboard information.

5. Continue through each question.

6. Stop the Interaction after the final question.

Tip: The bottom-right column includes links to the web controls and the participant quiz website. You can use the web controls to allow someone to operate the quiz remotely or share the participation link through email or text.

What are the requirements or limits?

The presentation computer and all participating devices must be connected to the internet. They do not have to be on the same network.

Troubleshooting

The chart slide works best with up to 4 options in each question. If you add more than for options you will have to manually customize the chart from the edit page.
